Small Businesses Rock

I run my own business as an internet programmer for small businesses. These aren’t the dozen page sites that act as a virtual brochure; my sites are portal type systems that manage inventories, order entry, logistics, accounting, etc.

I love programming for the web. There’s so many great reasons for putting a business online: direct collaboration with vendors, easy matching of production to customer orders, online ordering that’s directly connected with the inventory system, anywhere access, easy automation for any task, easy software updating, etc.

I also love small businesses. Large businesses have the mentality that if we throw enough money and employees at a problem, we’ll prevail. Small businesses have a survivor’s mentality though. We HAVE to survive. We have to be innovative. We have to be profitable. We have to stand out. A small business is agile. A small business is liberating.

Required Viewing

The following is a list of movies that are required viewing for all readers of ithinkiknowitall.com. Quotes from these movies are bound to appear in blog posts. I simply want you to be prepared, and not get lost in the lingo. This is not an exhaustive list, I will add more in future posts; then, eventually, create a static page of them.

The Godfather is a great set of movies about a mob family. I love these movies because there is an endless supply of “Street Smarts”.

The Big Lebowski is a favorite. It’s hard to describe why I love this flick so much; perhaps because it’s so quotable, and it’s funny too. Definitely not a show for the kiddies.

The Jerk is also a great flick. Packed full of great, repeatable quotes, and it’s also a very funny flick.

Get the Ball Rolling

I was thinking today about this blog. I really want to get the ball rolling, and I have a lot of things that I want to discuss; but I also have a fair amount of groundwork to do. Such as: setup the About Me page, setup a Commenting Policy, choose the best advertising for the site. As the King of Siam, on the movie The King and I, would say, “Et cetra, et cetra, et cetra.”

So, I’m going to starting writing content alongside setting up the various sections. Does that work for everyone?

Comments Anyone?!?

In preperation for this blog, I came across this article. It makes a great argument for not allowing comments.

I’m not going to do that though. I WANT comments and emails from my readers. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t put my thoughts on the internet.

I will, however, not allow anonymous comments for two reasons:

  1. I want to build a mental profile of each of my readers
  2. I want to avoid spam and comment flooding

So, please register, and let me know what you think.

My First Post

I really want to get this first post out of the way. I’ve always wanted to have a blog because I feel that I have a unique perspective, I also research topics and I tend to be highly opinionated on things I care deeply about.

Up till this point, I’ve forced my lovely wife to listen to my ramblings. Now, my audience includes anyone with a computer. Yes, this means you. :)

Let’s get this show on the road.
